Before You Use Your New Computer: Do These 5 Things

If you purchased a new computer, then you should take all the safety measures that will keep it running well for a very long time. You also need to learn about the best software that will ensure that it is safe.

Here are the 5 steps you should keep in mind:

  1. Backup your computer – Even if your computer is new, you never know when you will need to re-install your operating system. It is not a complicated procedure, all you need are a few blank discs. You will be able to choose exactly what you want to backup (your documents and settings/ everyone’s documents and settings who use this computer, etc.). Backup is a very important step, especially if your computer does not come with a genuine Windows disk.
  2. Search your pc for useless programs that are pre-installed on your operating system. Then, remove these programs, because they will only slow down the performance of your pc. You know best, which are those programs that you really need and which you do not.
  3. In order for Windows to run smoothly and correctly, you need to make regular windows updates. So, if you just purchased your pc, you will let windows do this security update (control panel -> Windows Update). Then, you will be prompted if you wish to install the respective updates.
  4. If you use the Internet a lot, then you must protect yourself with anti-virus programs that run efficiently. If you notice that you have a trial edition of any such program, remove it, as these usually need registration and payment before you can use them properly. Instead, two very efficient and free anti-virus programs are the Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Free Antivirus. With these, you can keep your pc clean from hacker attacks, viruses or bothersome ads.
  5. You probably have Internet Explorer browser on your pc. However, you should boost up performance and usability by downloading an additional browser such as Google Chrome or Firefox.
